About this Course

"Writing and Rhetoric 6" is an advanced-level online course focused on public speaking, building upon students' existing skills in persuasive essay writing and recitation. Throughout the semester, students will research, write, and deliver speeches under the three classical categories of rhetoric: judicial, ceremonial, and political. They will analyze and discuss speeches from historical figures such as Cicero, Thurgood Marshall, and Malala Yousafzai, while learning to craft and deliver their own speeches using the 5 Canons of Rhetoric. The course is designed to help students grow as readers, writers, and orators, with anticipated outcomes including improved critical evaluation skills, refined writing techniques, and enhanced public speaking abilities.
