About this Course

The course, suitable for rising 5th-6th graders (and occasionally others), focuses on narrative writing, building upon skills introduced in the Writing & Rhetoric series. Over two 15-week semesters, students meet 3 times weekly for 45-60 minutes each, engaging with "Look Inside" texts: Book 3: Narrative II and Book 4: Chreia & Proverb. In the first semester, they explore new story genres like historical narratives, learning to differentiate fact from opinion and ask the 'five Ws'. The second semester emphasizes six-paragraph essays based on sayings or actions. The course aims to foster a love for storytelling and writing through interactive sessions and personalized feedback. Prerequisites include successful completion of Writing & Rhetoric Books 1 and 2, or comparable proficiency in narration, summary, and amplification.
