World History through Movies

This online course, designed for high school students, uses historical fiction movies to explore key events in history. Over the course of the academic year, students will watch and analyze selected movies at home, then participate in moderated class discussions and written forums to critically examine the historical accuracy and fictional elements in each film. The eras covered include Shakespearean histories, racial inequality, imperialism, the interwar period, and World War II. Some movies are rated PG, while others are rated R, and parents are advised to be aware of the content before enrolling their children. Movies can be accessed through rental/streaming services or local libraries.
