About this Course

This is a 16-week, honors-level online course on the first part of American history, designed for high school students in grades 9-12. The course, titled "American History Part 1: To Begin the World Over Again," is the first of four parts in The Nomadic Professor’s American History survey program and covers the Pre-Columbian Americas to the Constitution. The course aims to help students become masters of American history and source material, engaging them with primary and contemporary sources, on-location historical mini-lessons, and fascinating stories from around the world.

The course is offered on a rolling basis, starting in September 2024, and must be completed within 5 months. Students are expected to dedicate approximately 1 hour of work per school day, with some weeks requiring up to 1.5 hours. The course covers a range of topics, including political, social, and cultural history, and encourages students to think deeply and carefully about the material. Assessments include weekly readings, on-location videos, end-of-unit pre-recorded document-based lessons, and accompanying notes and assignments.
