Twelfth Grade Literature

This online English Language Arts course, designed for students in grades 10-12, focuses on advanced literature appreciation and analysis. Over the course of a full academic year, students will delve into three seminal works: 'Anna Karenina', 'A Tale of Two Cities', and 'Great Expectations'. The reading load will progressively challenge students, modeling heroes, virtues, and high ideals. The course aims to enhance reading skills, foster an appreciation for literary excellence, and develop critical evaluation abilities. Students can expect to spend around 60 minutes daily on course material, and their grades will reflect participation, regular quizzes, essay questions, and final tests on each novel. Essays will encourage deeper textual exploration and aid in honing literary analysis skills.

The course requires students to have strong reading proficiency, English grammar knowledge, and the ability to construct and edit written work. Essential materials include specific textbook editions and student guides for each novel, a headset microphone, and a reading notebook for daily notes and questions. This rigorous 1-credit course is open to 10th-12th graders, with a prerequisite that 10th graders must demonstrate exceptionally strong reading skills.
