About this Course

In this online course, students explore the essay as a literary genre, focusing on personal and persuasive elements, and the blend between private and public expressions. Key figures examined include Annie Dillard, James Baldwin, Martin Luther King Jr., and others. Throughout the full year (divided into Fall and Spring semesters), students analyze rhetorical devices, stages of writing, and craft intensive essays. The course also covers college application essay writing. Upon completion, high school students may earn 1 Literature credit.
