Story of History: Modernity

The "Story of History Early Modern World" is a year-long history course designed for 6th graders, spanning the period from approximately 1492 to 1914. The curriculum is designed to immerse students in the historical, geographical, and cultural contexts of the modern world. Students will explore topics such as European exploration and conquest, Colonial American life, the cultural shifts of the Renaissance, the Reformation's impact, Atlantic trade, and the transformative power of Enlightenment ideals in revolutions. The course integrates biographies, historical fiction, and non-fiction narratives, and encourages interactive learning through activities like creating timelines, practicing cartography, and presenting on historical figures. Students should expect to dedicate about 2 hours per week on readings, map work, and discussions.
