SpeakUP! Podcasting and Public Speaking

"SpeakUP! Podcasting and Public Speaking" is a semester-long, half-credit high school course (grades 9-12) taught by Beth Purcell, held on Thursdays at 11:30 AM CST in fall 2025. This course introduces students to effective public speaking and persuasive communication, utilizing modern platforms like audio, video, and social media. Students will develop strong communication skills, analyze audiences and messages, and master essential delivery skills. Key areas include crafting speeches, podcasting techniques, and understanding the ethics of speech. By the end, students will have a professional digital portfolio showcasing their skills.

The course requires internet access, video and audio capability, confident computer skills, and a good command of English grammar. It applies the SAMR model to enhance learning through digital tools for planning, research, collaboration, and content creation. Students can save money by bundling this course with others and may even earn college credits through the school's Dual Degree Program.
