Spanish IA

The course "Foundational Spanish 1A" is a full-year, introductory language course for Spanish-speaking countries designed for middle school students. It focuses on providing students with a foundation for further high school or college level study, and builds skills in the areas of communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities as outlined by the World-readiness Standards for Learning Languages from ACTFL. The course covers basic competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with students expected to be able to introduce themselves, provide basic biographical information, recognize and understand spoken expressions, and understand short, simple texts. The course is designed to meet the needs of students in the logic stage (grades 6-9) and covers the same core textbook as the high school course, but at half the pace. A second course, Foundational Spanish 1B, is recommended to be taken alongside this course to cover all necessary topics for moving into Spanish 2 at the Well-Trained Mind Academy.
