About this Course

The Online Spanish I course is a full-year course intended to provide students with an introduction to the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. It covers the foundational skills necessary for continued study in high school or college. The course aligns with the World-readiness Standards for Learning Languages from the ACTFL, focusing on communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. Students will develop basic competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish. By the end of the course, students should be able to introduce themselves, provide basic biographical information, recognize and understand spoken expressions, and understand short, simple texts in Spanish.

It is recommended that students have a solid understanding of grammar rules before enrolling in this course, though grammar instruction is not a prerequisite. The course does not offer a delayed section due to the importance of live interaction in language learning. The Well-Trained Mind Academy has a specific approach to world language learning, which can be found on their website.
