As AP prep, the highest praise I can offer this course is that the AP Calculus BC exam was EASY after I finished. Nothing on the AP was unpredicted; it was just plug-and-chug (not actually, since Dr. Finotti teaches the concepts over the formulas, but it felt that way). The homework was easier than the live sessions, the tests were easier than the homework, and the AP was easier than the tests – so maybe that gives you an idea of how rigorous this course was. Of all the AP exams I’ve ever taken, Calculus BC was the one I felt most prepared for thanks to this class.

As a course, I can say that Dr. Finotti taught Single Variable Calculus to a level of true understanding. I don’t think it’s exaggerating to say that you will never have to memorize a formula in her class (except maybe the quotient rule and the Taylor series error bound) because you will know how to derive them all. Dr. Finotti cares about making sure everyone understands, and she will adapt the course and take time to explain things in different ways until every student is on the same page.

Workload: I spent about 6 hours a week (outside of live class meetings) on this course.

Grading turnaround: Variable; Dr. Finotti seldom gets more than two weeks behind on grading.

Do buy the textbook, or at least an online version, if you plan to take this course. Dr. Finotti is a clear enough lecturer that you can probably get by without reading the textbook before class, but since much of the homework is assigned from the book, you still need it.

I highly recommend this course. Even though the website is pink. You’ll get used to it after a while and you’ll learn a lot of math.

This is an online class with two live (cameras on), synchronous class sessions per week.

Dr. Finotti is an excellent teacher - she makes complex concepts clear and is dedicated to making sure each student understands and feels confident. She also tries to tailor the content to the interests of the class.

There are homework problem sets that consist of a mix of online problems done through Pearson Mastering and written proofs. Dr. Finotti provides detailed feedback on written problems. There are 2-3 midterm exams and one final exam.

The course goes above and beyond the content required for the AP exam. My child said the AP exam was pretty straightforward after completing Dr. Finotti's class.
