About this Course
This is an asynchronous, self-paced online chemistry course designed for high school students in grades 9-12. The course provides an understanding of chemical principles and skills needed for college and is suitable for students who have completed a physical science or general science course and have a good foundation in algebra. It covers topics such as the structure and properties of matter, organic and inorganic chemistry, energy, thermochemistry, nuclear reactions, acids, bases and salts, and chemical bonding. The course includes several hands-on experiments that can be completed at home and fulfills the lab requirement for a high school science credit.
The course requires students to spend 5-7 hours per week and consists of pre-recorded video lectures, concept questions, textbook study, electronic review questions, and scanned worksheets. Students will be graded on homework, lab work, professionalism, and exams. The course provides an opportunity for students to improve their organizational and time management skills required for online learning. The prerequisite for this course is Algebra 1 and requires high-speed broadband internet, streaming video capabilities, and a scanner or smartphone for submitting tests and homework.
