Science and Societies in Science Fiction Movies

This online course, designed for high school students, explores the intersection of science, society, and film through a lens of science fiction movies. Students watch selected films at home, such as 'Jurassic Park', 'Gattaca', and 'The Martian', which cover topics like genetic engineering, space exploration, and ecological disasters. The course then guides students in critically examining the scientific concepts and societal themes presented in these movies through moderated class discussions and written forums. Additionally, weekly webinars, available as recordings, help students analyze each film's historical context. Some movies are rated PG, while others are rated R, so parental guidance is advised.
