About this Course

This self-paced online course serves as a prerequisite for Rhetoric 2/Senior Thesis, focusing on the fundamental concepts and practical principles of rhetoric with a uniquely Christian perspective. Primarily drawing from Aristotle's "Rhetoric" and various biblical texts, it covers the five canons of rhetoric, types of persuasion, stasis theory, and other essential concepts. Students will also analyze notable historical speeches. The course runs from June through December. Required materials include "The Rhetoric Companion" by N.D. Wilson and Douglas Wilson (2007), Aristotle's "Rhetoric", "Elements of Style" by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White, and a standard translation of the Bible.
