About this Course

This online course is designed for 9th to 12th grade students to learn the fundamentals of computer science and basic programming, with a focus on developing logical thinking and problem-solving skills. The course teaches students to use the Python programming language and the Turtle module for graphical code. It utilizes a blended classroom approach, with web-based content and a browser-based CodeHS editor for writing and running code. The course covers essential computer science concepts, such as comments, user input, functions, loops, conditional statements, testing, optimization, and debugging.

The course is structured around weekly 1-hour live classes, which are interactive and include lecture notes, discussions about project progress, Q&A sessions, and homework reviews. Resources, assignments, and progress tracking are available on Canvas. Students are expected to have high-speed internet, a headset, microphone, webcam, and streaming video capabilities. FeedBACK will be provided during each class through critique and discussion, and grades will be posted on Canvas. Office hours for additional questions are available by appointment.
