About this Course

This is an online course designed to prepare students for a high school level algebra course. The course is built around the UCSMP math program, which emphasizes the interconnectivity of topics and continual review of previous concepts. Students will learn through various activities and the use of tools such as graphing calculators and a dynamic Geometry System. The course meets twice a week for 55 minutes, and students are expected to spend about 5 hours per week on the course. All classes are recorded, and students will need a graphing calculator (TI-83 or TI-84), high-speed internet, webcam, sound card, microphone, streaming video capabilities, and a scanner or smartphone for submitting tests and homework.

Incoming students should have a good understanding of arithmetic operations, fractions, and decimals, and successful completion of 6th grade math is a prerequisite. Instructor approval is required, and students will be evaluated based on homework, quizzes, and exams. Parents are encouraged to monitor grades and contact the instructor through Canvas messages.
