About this Course

This online physical science course is designed for high school students in grades 9-10, and also open to advanced 8th graders. The course is structured to provide a strong foundation for future high school chemistry and physics courses while also expanding the student's appreciation for the complexity and wonder of the physical world. The course is divided into two semesters, with the first semester covering the fundamentals of chemistry and the second semester covering the basics of physics. The course is quantitative, meaning that students will learn to perform simple calculations to support their inquiry. Each week, students will attend live classes, review guided notes, watch videos, and complete textbook assignments, homework, and labs. Students should expect to spend time on handwritten worksheets, tests, and a creative project each semester.

The course has a prerequisite of completion or concurrent enrollment of Algebra 1. The course requires a high-speed internet connection, a microphone, and a calculator. Students will be graded on notes, homework, labs, and exams. All student work will be graded and returned within one week of the due date.
