Patristic Greek

This online course offers an in-depth exploration of patristic Greek texts, designed for students who have a solid foundation in Greek at the college or high school level. It focuses on translating selected texts from early Christian Church fathers, such as Ignatius of Antioch, Athanasius, and John Chrysostom, using the 'A Patristic Greek Reader' by Rodney A. Whitacre. The course aims to strengthen students' understanding of Greek grammar and syntax, with occasional lectures from Orthodox clergy or monastics to discuss the theology behind the texts.

If you have completed Greek 3 or equivalent, but are new to patristic texts, this course provides an excellent introduction. It caters to those interested in both the linguistic challenge and the theological insight offered by these early Christian texts. If you don't have the prerequisite knowledge, the instructors provide guidance to start learning Greek through their Greek 1 class or self-paced College Level Greek course.
