Orthodox Poetry from Around the World Part II | Spring

This online course is an English class centered around poetry, designed for students of varying poetic experience, from beginners to seasoned writers. Over the span of a semester, students will enhance their communication skills through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The course curriculum revolves around the Great Feasts of the Lord in the Orthodox tradition, with students expected to engage with a diverse range of poetry and hymns while crafting their own poetic pieces. Specific literary elements such as simile, metaphor, and imagery will be explored in depth. Occasionally, Orthodox church history will be discussed to provide context for the poetry studied. Students will complete various writing assignments, including timed responses, journal entries, essays, critiques, and creative works, with an emphasis on vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and holistic composition skills. The course fosters a community of learners, encouraging peer-to-peer presentations and group work.
