About this Course

This semester's course, "Poetry and Hymnography in Orthodox Tradition," focuses on enriching students' understanding and creation of poetry within the context of the Orthodox Christian faith. Students, regardless of their poetic experience, will delve into various poetry and hymns, honing their communication skills through reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while studying the English language in depth. Key poetic elements like simile, metaphor, and imagery will be explored, along with a touch of Orthodox Church history. Assessments include timed responses, journal writing, essays, critiques, and creative pieces, with an emphasis on vocabulary, spelling, and grammar.
