The online course "Music Theory A" is a full-year course designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of music fundamentals such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and notation. Students can expect to learn how to create, manipulate, and analyze chord progressions and the formal structure in instrumental works, both past and present. The course includes various assignments such as book work, ear training, performing, and composing.
Additionally, students have the option to register for Piano I and Piano II elective courses in the fall and spring semesters, respectively, to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Completion of Music Theory A prepares students to take the Grade 4 exam from the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Level 6 Royal College of Music (RCM) exam.
