Modern U.S. History through Movies

This online course, designed for high school students, offers a unique blend of history and film analysis. Over the course of a full academic year, students will explore significant events in American history through the lens of historical fiction movies. Each week, students will watch a selected film at home, spanning eras from the Civil War to the Cold War, including renowned titles like "Lincoln," "Selma," and "BlackKKKlansman." Following the viewing, students participate in moderated class discussions and written forums to critically examine the historical truths and fictionalizations present in each film. The course aims to foster a deeper understanding of both film artistry and historical context. It's notable that while most movies are PG-rated, some are rated R, and parents are advised to be aware of the content. Movie access is not provided, but most films are readily available through various streaming or rental services and even local libraries.
