About this Course

This course, designed for 12th graders with substantial exposure to great books, provides a comprehensive introduction to the worldviews that have shaped modern and postmodern thought, as reflected in several major literary works of the 20th century. Students will engage with influential authors such as James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and William Faulkner, among others, exploring the underlying worldviews and comparing them with the biblical worldview. The course also covers aspects of literary theory and narrative techniques, encouraging students to "bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ". It carries an honors designation and may count towards Literature or Theology graduation requirements. Students can expect to spend approximately 3-4 hours per week on reading assignments and will also complete weekly discussion board posts and two papers or presentations per semester.
