About this Course

This is a two-year introductory Latin course designed for middle school students, utilizing the immersive method through extensive reading of Hans Ørberg's "Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata" textbook. The course covers the first 13 chapters of "Familia Romana," gradually introducing students to all five declensions, six cases of nouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, pronouns, and Roman numerals. By the end, students will have learned over 500 Latin vocabulary words. The curriculum is adjusted for younger learners, providing a slower pace with more time for basic grammar instruction and practice, making it equivalent to the first year of high school Latin but tailored for younger students. Successful completion prepares students for High School Latin 2 Immersive.

The course primarily uses Latin, with drills and worksheets provided for morphological and vocabulary reinforcement. The second year specifically covers chapters 8-13, delving into more advanced topics like comparative and superlative forms of adjectives, indirect speech, and the Roman calendar system. With nearly 300 new vocabulary words introduced in the second year alone, students become familiar with Latin language structures and build a substantial vocabulary base.
