About this Course

This course is an immersive introduction to Latin for middle school students, led by Mrs. Kopf using the Familia Romana text by Hans Ørberg. In the first year, students will learn basic grammar fundamentals, such as distinguishing between verbs and nouns, understanding agreements between nouns and adjectives, and grasping concepts like number, gender, and case. They will also memorize over 250 vocabulary words. The course is designed to prepare students for high school Latin, covering chapters 1-7 of Familia Romana, and offers morphology and vocabulary drills for reinforcement.

Spanning two years, this program is equivalent to the first year of high school Latin but tailored for younger learners, offering more time for grammar instruction and practice. Students will eventually learn all five declensions, six cases of Latin nouns, adjectives in different declensions, various verb forms, prepositions, pronouns, and Roman numerals 1-10, memorizing over 500 Latin vocabulary words.
