About this Course

This is a full-year, live online course in Marine Biology & Oceanography designed for high school homeschoolers. The course covers the chemical, physical, and biological components of the ocean, divided into three units of study: the ocean environment, organisms of the sea, and structure and function of marine ecosystems. The course uses a "flipped classroom" model where students prepare for class by completing weekly assignments and activities, and live class time is spent expanding on the material through discussion, peer activities, group projects, or hands-on labs. Regular attendance in live classes is not optional, but the instructor will work with students to keep them caught up if they cannot attend live. The course is taught by Marcy Swisher and runs from August 26, 2024 to May 4, 2025.
