About this Course

This is a foundational high school English course for 9th graders and advanced 8th graders, focused on developing critical reading and writing skills. Students analyze complex texts in various genres, such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama, and explore different writing discourses, including persuasive essays, research reports, and narrative writing. The course emphasizes effective communication, collaboration, discussion, and vocabulary development.

Six books are required for this course, and students must bring them to class. Basic supplies like a binder, notebook paper, highlighters, and post-it notes are also necessary. Weekly homework includes vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing assignments. Honors level is available for students seeking a more challenging and in-depth study of literature.
