Life Skills for Young Adults
About this Course
This is a one-semester online course titled "Adulting: Finance & Goal Planning; Resumes & Real Life" (previously known as "Life Skills for the Young Adult"). The course provides young adults with essential knowledge to navigate the world successfully. It covers various topics, including personal finance, goal planning, job search skills, and life skills. The course consists of weekly reading and discussion of course texts, discussion boards, three independent projects, three recorded presentations, and two take-home tests.
The course places significant emphasis on personal finance practices, including budgeting, saving, and understanding various forms of credit, insurance, and taxes. Students will learn how to set personal and financial goals, evaluate their plans, and make consistent improvements. Additionally, the course covers job search skills, with a focus on creating value for potential employers and developing a simple, effective resume. Lastly, students will learn various life skills, such as purchasing a car or home, registering to vote, and doing laundry. The classes are live, with opportunities for interaction with the instructor and fellow students.
