Liberal Arts Level 8: Modern Classics of Christendom (16th Century and Beyond)

The course presents a detailed examination of significant modern Christian literary works from the 15th century to the present day, with a focus on Eastern Orthodox perspectives. It covers a wide range of topics, including the European Reformations, the religious revival in modern Greece, and the rise of Russian spiritual novels. The course follows the traditional "Great Books" approach, centering discussions around primary texts supplemented with relevant contextual information. It is designed to accompany and build upon prior learning from 'Liberal Arts Level 7: Classics of Christendom'. Students from all backgrounds are welcome, but they should anticipate an Eastern Orthodox approach to the materials, including critical yet charitable analysis of non-Orthodox works.
