About this Course

The Liberal Arts Level 4 course is designed to enhance students' communication skills through a comprehensive study of the English language. It covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, with a focus on writing personal letters, narratives, and short speeches. The course explores a variety of genres including novels, short stories, poetry, essays, and non-fiction. It also integrates history as a contextual backdrop for literature. Students can expect to develop their grammar, spelling, and vocabulary skills through various writing assignments such as timed responses, journal entries, essays, critiques, and creative pieces. Group and individual presentations are incorporated to foster a collaborative learning environment.

The course structure includes major units on poetry, short stories, and novels, as well as different types of writing: narrative, expository, technical, and persuasive. It also covers speech writing and delivery. The multi-step writing process is utilized to develop, revise, evaluate, and improve written pieces. Students are required to have two composition notebooks for their Interactive Literature Student Notebook and a Reading Journal, which will prepare them for class discussions and assessments.
