About this Course

The Well-Trained Mind Academy offers a full-year course combining Latin IV and Latin V. This course is designed to be taken twice, earning a full high school credit each year. It alternates between the study of Ovid/Catullus (Year A) and Vergil/Caesar (Year B), allowing students to complete the full Latin high school curriculum and prepare for college-level study. The primary focus of Latin IV/V is reading authentic Latin literature, with new vocabulary introduced within the context of these texts. Students will analyze rhetorical devices and themes, review grammatical structures, and understand historical, societal, and religious contexts. They will develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in Latin through engaging with the literature. A prerequisite for this course is completion of Latin III or passing the Latin IV/V Placement Test.
