Latin IB

The Well-Trained Mind Academy offers a full-year online course in Latin 1A, intended to provide middle school students with an introductory foundation for further studies in high school or college. Centered around Roman culture and history, the course combines reading, understanding, and interpreting Latin while developing students' reading, writing, and listening skills in the language. Emphasis is placed on communication, cultural awareness, cross-curricular connections, comparative studies, and building learning communities, meeting the World-readiness Standards for Learning Languages from the ACTFL.

This course is a prerequisite for Latin 2, and the course syllabus covers all necessary topics students need to progress. Due to the importance of live interaction in learning a new language, there is no delayed section available. Students are advised to complete Grammar II or its equivalent before enrolling, as a solid understanding of grammar rules enhances their ability to learn a new language. Please note students can use the available placement tests in grammar course descriptions to determine the most suitable grammar course for their level.
