About this Course

The Well-Trained Mind Academy offers a full-year introductory course in Latin, Latin Ia, designed for middle school students. The course aims to foster enthusiasm for Latin and create a foundation for further studies in high school or college. Students will explore Roman culture and history through Latin readings, with a focus on reading, understanding, and interpreting the language. The course will also contribute to the development of students' reading, writing, and listening skills in Latin. It adheres to the World-readiness Standards for Learning Languages from the ACTFL, covering Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities.

Due to the importance of live interaction in language learning, there is no delayed section for this course. It is suggested that students enrolling in Latin Ia have completed Grammar II or attained comparable knowledge, as a strong understanding of grammar rules can enhance language learning success. There are placement tests available in grammar course descriptions to help determine the appropriate grammar course for individual students.
