About this Course

The offered course is an advanced study of Latin literature, designed for students who have successfully completed equivalent to Latin 4 Intermediate level. It focuses on two prominent works: Vergil's Aeneid, Book 4, and Ovid's Heroides, Epistle 7. Students will learn to read, translate, and discuss these texts within their historical and literary contexts. Aimed at self-motivated students, the course requires a solid understanding of Latin grammar and does not extensively review previous material. The workload is estimated to be around 75% of an AP course. Notably, the Advanced Latin course is repeatable, typically offering a different author each year in a three or four-year rotation. Upon completion, students earn one high school credit in a foreign language.
