Latin 3 (H)

Latin 3 is an advanced course for high school students (grades 9-12) who have completed Latin 2. It builds upon previously learned Latin grammar, culminating in a comprehensive understanding. Students delve into Latin poetry, studying Catullus, Virgil, and Ovid, while recognizing various lyric meters and epic poetry meter, dactylic hexameter. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to Virgil's Aeneid, ensuring students are well-prepared for the AP Latin exam. Throughout, students refine their translation skills while exploring Roman culture and history. Grammatical topics covered include gerunds, gerundives, participles, deponent verbs, and conditional sentences, along with the subjunctive mood.

The course includes additional academic opportunities. The price covers registration, study sessions, and administration for national exams, including the National Classical Etymology Exam, the National Latin Vocabulary Exam, and the National Latin Exam. Students typically devote 3-5 hours per week to homework, comprising translation assignments, vocabulary, and grammar assessments. The course is designed to prepare students for college-level Latin, and no specific promisal of college credit is implied.
