About this Course

The online course "Japanese I" is a full-year course that serves as an introduction to the language and culture of Japan. It aims to provide students with a foundation for further study at the high school or college level and develop their global competency skills in communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. The course focuses on building basic competencies in the four modalities of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of the course, students should be able to introduce themselves, answer simple questions, provide basic biographical information, recognize and understand spoken expressions, and understand short texts in Japanese.

It is recommended that students enrolling in Japanese I have a strong understanding of grammar rules, although grammar instruction is not a prerequisite. The course does not offer a delayed section due to the importance of live interaction in language learning. Note that the Well-Trained Mind Academy has its own approach to world language learning, which can be explored through their website.
