Introduction to Watercolor Painting | Spring

This course, titled "Introduction to Watercolor Painting," is a semester-long online art class focused on watercolor painting. The course aims to help students, regardless of their prior art experience, understand and appreciate the dynamic nature of watercolors. It begins with familiarizing students with the medium through various exercises and material experiments. The curriculum then delves into color theory, exploring a full range of colors through color charts. Students study prominent artists who have mastered watercolors, engaging in "picture studies" and regular master copy practice, echoing Charlotte Mason's educational approach. A significant part of the course involves observing and painting the world around us, fostering a sense of reverence for God's creation. Each class session includes demonstrations, individual instruction, work-time, and class discussions, gradually building students' skills and knowledge from foundational principles to more complex concepts. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to keep a sketchbook for notes, experiments, and sketches. In addition to technical skills, the course cultivates a deeper appreciation for the visual world and its creator.
