About this Course

This is a one-semester online course about US government and political institutions, designed for high school students in grades 9-12. The course is offered in two sections during the first semester and one section in the second semester, with a maximum class size of 16 students to encourage student engagement. The course covers topics such as the principles behind the United States government, the historical development of the current political situation, the political process, political groups, public policies, the Constitution, political behavior, and America's role in the world. Honors level is also offered, which includes one extra assignment per week with more advanced reading and writing elements.

The course includes weekly homework assignments, such as watching videos, reading articles, or completing worksheets. There is an estimated 3-test after the final class session. The course will be delivered via live sessions and recorded for viewing after the class. The technology requirements include high-speed broadband, a webcam, a microphone, and streaming video capabilities. Students will receive comments and individualized feedback on their assignments via Canvas. Parents do not need to contact the instructor before registering, and they will confirm registration via a welcome email to students.
