Introduction to Portraiture | Fall

This course, offered as an art study, focuses on portraiture and figure drawing while integrating Christian faith and ethics. It begins with foundational anatomy lessons to establish accurate drawing techniques. Students explore various methods and mediums, learning expressive and dynamic mark-making. Throughout, the course emphasizes respect for human creation and reverence for the Creator, drawing insights from Scriptures, C.S. Lewis' works, and other texts. Practical learning involves demonstrations, projects, critiques, and artist statements. The history of classical and contemporary portraiture, Christian imagination in arts, and the role of arts in the Church are also discussed. The course is supplemented by daily readings from Christian authors.
