Introduction to Poetry

"Introduction to Poetry" is a high school level, honors English course that explores the art of poetry, drawing from both British and American traditions. Students engage with the multifaceted nature of poetry, experiencing it through listening, recitation, memorization, and close textual analysis. Key poetic elements like imagery, figurative language, symbolism, and rhythm are examined. The coursework includes aural and written assignments such as scanning and annotating poems, as well as writing formal essays with multiple drafts. Upon completion, students may receive 1 Literature credit.
