About this Course
This online course, titled "Fundamentals of Painting," guides students through the basics of painting with a focus on watercolor initially and later transitioning to oil and acrylic. Over the semester, students learn essential concepts like color mixing, value, and hue, and practice these skills by replicating paintings from various art styles. They also create original landscape and still-life paintings. Instructors provide demonstrations, personal guidance, and exercises to help students master techniques such as layering paint, adding glazes, and creating texture. The course culminates in a final project, a 16”x20” still-life, portrait, or landscape, allowing students to apply their learned skills. Additionally, students engage in regular class critiques, write artist statements, and participate in discussions about art history, faith, and the role of arts in the Church.
