Introduction to Linguistics

The course "Introduction to Linguistics" is a semester-long, honors-level high school course adapted from a college-level survey, designed for gifted learners. It covers key topics such as phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, dialects, historical linguistics, and language acquisition. The course does not require any textbooks, with all materials accessible online. Learning involves weekly 50-minute webinars, supported by videos, multimedia materials, and web 2.0 tools. Students also engage in regular writing exercises on discussion forums and prepare for the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO).
