About this Course

This 12-session middle school workshop introduces students to computational thinking and creative computing using Scratch, a web-based programming tool. The course employs a design-based learning approach, emphasizing hands-on creation, personalization, collaboration, and reflection. Students will explore foundational programming concepts like loops, sequences, and conditionals, along with computational practices such as testing, reusing, and modularizing code. Through art-, story-, and game-based projects, students will develop computational perspectives, expressing and connecting ideas while questioning their designs. The course follows an iterative design and development methodology, preparing students for future computer science studies and the broader tech industry. Each 50-minute webinar session is recorded for students who may need to make up a session. The workshop requires a computer with speakers, microphone, and a network connection for online access.
