About this Course

This online course, taught by instructor Lili Serbicki, is an intensive introduction to the fundamental elements of English that students will encounter in either a full-year AP Language or AP Literature course. The course readings will include both fiction and nonfiction works, and students will explore diction, syntax, characterization, dialogue, conflict, narrative perspective, tone, figurative language, argument, and other important concepts. The course will not only cover the basics of analysis and argument but also provide detailed critiques on students' written work in various essay formats.

The course is structured with homework posted on Monday morning and due Friday night, with students expected to spend 5-6 hours per week on the course. The course is suitable for 9th-12th graders and requires a high-speed internet connection, sound card and microphone, and streaming video capabilities. While this is not a full-length AP Prep course, it serves as an excellent introduction to many important aspects of language and composition.
