About this Course
This online course is a 1/2 credit visual arts course for high school students in grades 9-12, teaching the fundamentals of animation and 3D modeling. Using software such as Adobe Animate, Autodesk Maya, and Hitfilm, learners will create dynamic talking characters, engaging animations, cycle animations, and detailed 3D models. The course covers storyboarding, story development, character creation, environment design, texturing, and lighting. Students will also participate in peer critiques to refine their projects.
The course is structured with a 1-hour live class per week, with homework assignments, lecture notes, and project progress discussed during sessions. Participants should have high-speed internet, a headset, microphone, webcam, streaming video capabilities, a computer mouse, and specific software. Feedback will be provided during each class, and grades will be posted on Canvas. Parents are invited to join their student in Canvas as observers to view their student’s progress.
