Intermediate Illustration | Spring

In "Illustration II," advanced students build upon prior knowledge of illustration, character design, color theory, and visual communication. The course emphasizes creative freedom and developing a personal illustrative style, while also exploring the connection between text and image. Students create an illustrated children's book, a series of poems, or a comic book story as their final project, requiring them to design detailed characters, settings, and analyze real-world illustrations. Through demonstrations, individual instruction, and exercises, students explore various mediums, compositions, textures, and application techniques. The course includes hands-on studio work, regular critiques, and the requirement to submit artist statements, encouraging students to articulate their creative intent and understanding of design concepts.
