History of the Ancient World

The full-year online course on Ancient History allows students to explore human history from the earliest written records to 476 AD, the time of the removal of the last Roman "emperor." The course highlights the interaction between humans and their environment, and the relationship of philosophy to the development of states. Students will study significant historical events through the writings of ancient historians like Herodotus, Thucydides, and Plutarch. The course includes weekly comprehension quizzes, discussion questions, and quarterly essays, with longer papers and comprehensive semester exams to assess students' understanding of the historical material and their ability to connect ancient history to modern historical periods.
