History of English – Early Semester

This interdisciplinary course, not strictly a language course, delves into the evolutionary history of the English language from its Germanic origins to its present form. It covers historical periods, sound changes, invasions, and migrations that impacted the language, as well as topics like standardized spelling and language dialects. Key to the course is its use of original texts from Old, Middle, and Early Modern English, though it does not focus on the religious content but rather uses these texts to illustrate linguistic traits and features.
