About this Course
This is a full-year online course in History, providing 1 credit, and can also be taken by semester (0.5 credit each semester). It explores the history of Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and East Asia, from ancient civilizations to contemporary conflicts. The course is structured around engaging with various texts, including films, memoirs, graphic novel memoirs, primary sources, and secondary sources. It is centered on class discussion and participation, with weekly history questions, essay assignments, and map quizzes. Students will develop nonfiction reading and writing skills and a different view of history than is usually explored in high school history classes, especially those interested in world history and not centered on the Western world. It is recommended for students in grades 9-12 who are interested in history, nonfiction reading, and writing skills.
Technology requirements include high-speed internet, a sound card, microphone, and streaming video capabilities. Communication is through Canvas, with parents and students encouraged to reach out with any questions. A short narrative progress report is provided at the end of each quarter.
