High School Russian 1 – Section A

Russian 1 is an introductory online course focused on teaching the fundamentals of the Russian language and culture. The course uses the textbook 'Beginner's Russian' and an interactive online workbook, supplementing these with additional materials for pronunciation and listening skills. Over approximately 15 weeks, students cover half of the textbook, learning the Russian alphabet, basic grammar (including cases, tense, and pronouns), and essential vocabulary. They practice conversation, listening to authentic speech, writing exercises, and cultural lessons, with a focus on expressing common topics like greetings, academics, and personal preferences.

The course meets twice weekly for one-hour sessions, along with approximately 2 hours of weekly homework. This homework includes written, oral, and reading assignments, as well as interactive vocabulary practice using Quizlet and the workbook. Upon completion, high school students may earn 1 Language credit.
